OK, it’s been a while. Here is where we are on some issues:
1. HorseFlicks contract will be signed and the deposit sent (thank you Amrita!) within the next day or so. Our 3 locations will have a wide variety of horses and people coming. Of the 24 or so people participating, at least 7 are not ATAA members. Maybe they will be next year! We also have the option of buying still photos from the shoot and so far, everyone is on board with this. This could also give us many more promotional photos for ATAA use. 2. Jas has graciously accepted the Nominating Chair position. We will have 2 open positions, both of which were those of non-performing members and were filled by Catrina and Betsy. I hope they both run again as they’ve been great assets! 3. Conference is coming along. Terri has the hotel and barn set up. If you have issues you’d like discussed during the meeting, please contact her. I’ve already heard from several non-ATAA members that they are planning on coming – it should be fun! 4. Registrations continue to go out. Amrita and I have figured out a pretty good system to make sure we don’t miss anything. 5. Don’t forget to start nominating people for the ATAA awards, I’m sure Betsy and Catrina will have some nifty stuff to give out. 6. Yearbook – Betsy wants to get something done for the Conference. Let’s make sure WE all get stuff in. I will send a blurb out to the membership within the next week. (Betsy, is that ok with you?) 7. July newsletter is almost done. I should (!) get it out before the end of the month. As it’s the last one before the conference, I’m trying to make sure I don’t miss anything. Busy, busy! We’ll all be seeing each other in the not too distant future. Keep up the good work. Cathy

Brought to the board:
Partbred gelding Sensational Scooby, a 1999 AT-TWH-Perc gelding application to be registered with the ATAA. His sire is deceased and was only bloodtyped. Scooby has been DNA'd. Scooby is a gelding and before gelded never sired offspring. The board voted to register Scooby. Yes, Catrina, Amrita, Tish, Betsy, Terri, Jas Passed and registration certificate sent to owner. Bylaws and Rules and Regs and Membership Directory (along with our great bumper sticker) has been sent to the membership. Registrations are rolling along, with several more pendings cleared up and several more new registrations in process. Tish is working on the HorseFlicks DVD and we should have an announcement to send out soon. Remember the July newsletter will be coming up, so get your farm reports, competition reports, foal photos etc in. Keep up the good work! Cathy Hi everyone,
More progress, including: 1. ATAA ad designed and paid for in the ALBC breeder’s directory 2. Bylaws and Rules and Regs ready to print and send to membership, along with ATAA bumper sticker 3. We continue to work on registrations, slowly clearing up some pendings and issuing new registrations. Keep up the good work! Cathy Purebred foal Rules and regs change– yes, Betsy, Cathy, Amrita, Tish, Catrina- passed
Register Otis, non purebred gelding – Terri, Jas, Catrina, Betsy, Cathy, Amrita- passed Tish is working on the Western States horse expo and the Horseflicks possibility- we need to keep going forward on the Horseflicks, if we’re going to do it. Insurance has been requested for an expo in Minnesota Newsletter is out, both paper and electronic. Membership is up – we’re now at 52? members I think. Membership directory is in the works, along with the 2013 Bylaws and Rules and Regs book. Great job, everyone! Keep up the good work. Cathy Hi everyone,
We continue to ‘get stuff done’. 1. Our biggest project right now is deciding what to do the Horseflicks film about. We’ve voted to put $1000 in from the ATAA towards it (Amrita, Cathy, Betsy, Jas, Catrina voted yes). We need to decide; a. Our message – this is a series sponsored by ALBC and is about endangered breeds. We need a clear message as to why the Akhal-Teke is special, worth saving and why more people should have one. b. Where to film and if we can do more than 1 day of filming. i. The obvious place is at the Annual Conference, but it is a bit later than Jon wants to film (October). Would enough horses come to make it worthwhile? If we do film there, do we do an extra day of the Conference JUST for filming? ii. If we do another place, where and for what purpose? Jon is being very generous and will do it pretty much for his travel, but we still need a plan. Something in summer to highlight the sheen? At an Expo? Seeing horses meet people, kids, etc? Have a Teke show? (that would be pretty short notice though and very hard to get done) Or, go somewhere where several will be competing? Maybe have people do video on their own to be wrapped into the film? It wouldn’t be professional, but ?? 2. New members and renewals continue to come in. We’re up to 44 members, with several being ranch members. I’m sure renewals and new memberships will continue to come in, but today is the cut off for people being able to vote this year in the General Election. 3. Registrations continue to be processed. More and more people are sending registrations in, as they find out the process is working. Great job everyone, Cathy Lots done again this past week:
1. Our discussion of how/if we do the HorseFlicks Rare Breeds series is ongoing. Please put your thoughts and opinions out there, so we can continue to progress. If we are to keep to a June/July schedule, we’ll need to really get on the ball. There has been some excellent discussions, pro and con, but we don’t have a plan or consensus yet. This can be another excellent promotion, but it will take work! Thanks to Tish for taking the lead on this. 2. Betsy and Catrina have come up with a ATAA awards program. These awards will be presented at the Annual Conference in October. They will be published on the website and in the newsletter. Thank you ladies! 3. Tish has a proposal for the Western States Horse Expo that will be in the newsletter and maybe on the website. She is looking for people to bring their Tekes and also for volunteers, donations, ads, brochures, etc. If anyone else is doing an Expo this year, let us know and we will be able to give some help (with advance notice). Tish is working up a CD that can be sent out with a brochure and other goodies on it to distribute. This will be useful in years to come, so thank you Tish. 4. Registration continues with more certificates sent out. Amrita and Cathy are working on revamping the rules and regs, to make them easier to understand and more specific to situations. Ongoing. 5. Betsy has offered to do a Yearbook, to be presented at the Annual Membership meeting. This will include photos, bios of awards winners and various other great things. I can’t wait to see it! 6. The April ATAA newsletter is now in the works, send in your farm reports, ads, competition reports, foal photos etc. 7. Our 2012 IRS taxes have been filed (it’s quite easy for a non-profit that doesn’t make much). 8. Membership continued to rise, we have 7 Lifetime members, 22 renewing members (so far) and 10 new members. 9. Terri continues to work on the Annual Conference. She is waiting to see what we decide on the HorseFlicks before going too much farther, for if we decide to do a day of shooting there, it will change how she organizes things. Way to go everyone! It is so wonderful to have such enthusiastic self-starters on the BOD. Thank you for your hard work, Cathy Hi everyone,
Things continue to progress – great work from everyone! The past week or so: 1. 4 awards coolers were presented at the first national non-Teke awards banquet last night – AERC ATAA awards were presented to 4 horse-ride combos. The awards were also mentioned in the AERC Yearbook (incorrectly, I might add) but they are there! Kudos to Catrina for a job well done. I suspect we’ll have lots more competition for 2014 awards. 2. Terri has announced the dates of the 2013 Annual Conference, to be held in Minnesota, Oct 4, 5 and 6th. She asked for an informal survey of where members wanted the meeting to be held and an overwhelming number said “nearer to the horses”. 3. The ATAA bumper stickers have arrived and will go out with the bylaws booklet and membership directory. Thanks to Tish for getting them made up – they look great! 4. Registrations continue to progress. Amrita and I are figuring out a system and have issued quite a few certificates (I don’t have the actual number), with quite a few more pending. We are also starting to work on old pending registrations. 5. Memberships continue to roll in – right now, we have 39 members, with 9 of those being either completely new or long time absent members. I just sent out a mailing to other Teke people and also to members that haven’t renewed yet, asking them to join us too. We should get some more memberships from those. 6. Our proposed 2013 budget is done and will be in the next newsletter. 7. An interesting promotion was proposed on the Teke chat list – doing another HorseFlicks video, following some Teke-rider teams in their sports, such as an endurance rider and possibly an eventer. I think this would be a good one to discuss at the Yearly Conference. Keep up the good work! Cathy |
